The FIA has published the provisional 2010 calendar of the International Cup for Cross-Country Bajas.

 

Unfortunately, in the proposed calendar first and second rounds of the Cup are separated from each other only by one week. Taking into account a conceptual difference in the surfaces these events are held on - sand in Saudi Arabia and snow and ice in Russia, - it's evident that sportsmen who will compete in the series will have to choose between the two February events. Moreover, delivering racing vehicles from Saudi Arabia to Europe by ship takes at least two weeks, so those teams who have only one car at their disposal (i.e. the majority) will be deprived of an opportunity to take part in both competitions.

It's clearly impossible to move "Baja Russia - Northern Forest" back: even though Saint-Petersburg is called the Northern capital of Russia, it's not that far in the North to guarantee a good snow and ice surface at the beginning of March. That is why organisers of the Russian event applied to the FIA and the Motorsport Federation of Saudi Arabia with a request to move "Hail Baja" a little bit forward.

 

The final version of the calendar will be available by the end of this week. Meanwhile, organisers of "Baja Russia - Northern Forest 2010" are currently busy finding solutions for better and easier logistics of foreign competitors - the opportunities of customs support for fast and unhampered crossing of the border are being discussed now.

 

We hope that organisers of the Saudi Arabian Baja will show understanding for our position, because the priority of any motorsport competition is the interests of its participants.
